I tried to pet shops but they had nothing I liked. I want the background to be something not always have to do with nature, that is something that may be abstract or colorful. My aquarium has a light cream-colored sand, two large pieces sorrel granite nice looking, and bright green plant life.

Use vaseline or cooking oil. Just smear some on, place the background on and then use something to smooth out, I use a credit card.

Anything as long as you do not put it in the tank. Go to the local pet store that they have a background of rolling sold by the foot. Make sure you know how big your tank is ... It is usually only about 30 cents per foot.
